Description : An early Historical or Pictorial Flask, blown at Saratoga or Mt. Vernon Glass Works, NY, ca. This is the GV-5 “Success to the Railroad / Horse Pulling Cart” Pint in various shades of medium and dark Forest and Olive Green. Pontil scar on base; sheared and fire polished mouth. These flasks were made to celebrate (and encourage construction of) Early American Railways. Obverse and Reverse both feature a Horse pulling a keg-filled Cart on a Railway with embossed test: SUCCESS TO THE RAILROAD within an oval panel; heavy medial rib on each side. Condition : Slight wear noted on base and areas of highest relief, tiny nick on rim; otherwise Very Good to Excellent overall with desirable color, subject matter and strong mold impression(s). No cracks or repaired damage. There are remnants of an old cork adhered to the inner mouth, as shown. Note : this flask was photographed in natural light against a neutral background; it will display a shade or two lighter on a sunlit sill with 100s of tiny seed bubbles visible throughout.
