Antique 1861 McELROY MACON GA Civil War Era Bowie Knife Bone Handle LOOK
Antique 1861 MCELROY MACON GA Bowie knife Civil War Era. It is NOT marked CS. I bought this at a collectors estate sale and have owned for some time and just ready to let someone else enjoy it as it just doesnt fit my collection Im more into WWII. Ive done a lot of research on McElroy and he/they made A LOT of items for the civil war not just knives but there just isnt an abundance of information out there. On other examples I have seen similar tang stamps all caps, Ive also seen McElroy with the little c As well as W. Ive also noticed other dates like 1862 and a few others. Another thing is blade shape Ive seen this style, a fuller more clip point blade style and a dagger style blade. The overall length on this is rite at 13.5 and the blade length is 9 it is full tang and the spine is just under 1/4 wide and it weights over 1 lb. Im adding in a few pictures of others Ive seen one with this style blade, one totally different style but has same brass hand guard and the other I found with entirely different tang stamp. The bone scales that are on it arent bad but they arent great either in my opinion but if they are 1860s then I wouldnt except superior quality. Fits in hand nicely. The scratches on the edge look like someone tried to sharpen but it didnt work out. Was like that when I got it and I never tried to fix it or clean it up. Has a nice pitina on blade. The scratches are not deep and just took a little off the surface. Please look at photos for details. Any questions please ask Ill do my best to answer. Be sure to check out my other listings. For WW1 or WW2 MILITARY BICYCLES. WITH THESE, YOU CAN CONVERT YOUR OWN BICYCLE INTO. A REPLICA MILITARY MODEL. Not every type of rifle clip fits every vintage bicycle. But these are designed to be as versatile as possible. You can see from the photos below how they fit. You need to cut up an old leather belt and glue it inside the rifle clips. To finish them off (though I’ve not done this on the bike illustrated here). And maybe apply a thicker coat of paint, old nuts and bolts, etc. These replicas are hand-made as close as possible to the original pattern. BUCKET TYPE, 1st Pattern. (1 Front piece + 1 Rear piece). (VAT included within EU – tell me if you need a VAT receipt). WAR OFFICE 1901’1st PATTERN’ RIFLE CLIPS (REPLICA). During WW1, all the major combatants deployed bicycles. Its not possible to know exactly how many military cyclists there were, but its estimated that at least 100,000 British soldiers used bicycles in some capacity and at least 150,000 French and Belgians. A bicycle was an ideal means of transportation as it was comparatively lightweight it could be carried over obstructions and as well as being ridden could be loaded with equipment and pushed. It was particularly well-suited for conveying despatches, guerrilla action, patrols and reconnaissance a motorcycle was faster, but a bicycle was silent. OWNER: The Online Bicycle Museum.
