Sauer Company Original Advertising clock. In 1884, at age seventeen, Conrad Frederick Sauer began work for a retail and wholesale drug business in Richmond, Virginia. As a drug clerk, he dealt directly with customers who brought in their own bottles to be refilled with drugstore products. The company grew and products such as the award winning Vanilla extract won world class awards. This clock is an original Sauers advertising clock given to store owners who carried the brand. Clock maker was the New Haven clock company. I boutht this clock years ago from a store owner who closed his store. The glass was broken but all there, I sent the glass off to be repaired and repainted. They did a beautiful job. You can see the cracks, the light camera has highlighted them. Runs great and has been a real joy to have. Kept it in my office, but now down sizing. My Slideshow Saures Original Advertising clock Richmond VA. 2017 marks the 130th anniversary of The C. Be “on the Ball” with this working historic clock from the Balls Watch Company/Seth Thomas. It has faint pencil marks on the back panel that possibly tell something about where it came from but are too faded to read. Look close at the close up of the back panel and you’ll see the faint writing. It appears to be original and untouched. The original Balls label is intact and covering the original Seth Thomas label. This clock has its natural age and was obviously used somewhere. Some of the brass pieces that secure the glass to the brass have come off causing the glass to be loose when the dial door is open. At least one of the brass brackets that came off was saved inside the clock, possibly more, I have not taken the clock apart and will not. The pendulum has a small dent in the center. The pendulum swings and keeps time but hasn’t been tested again Im not familiar with clocks. I love the historic authentic look of this clock. To any collector this clock needs no introduction because it is one of the most collectible clocks. Ball’s Watch company is connected to the American railroads and the first time that keeping accurate time across the country became imperative and Balls was the company that made this happen. This company was hired by a number of Railroads to provide accurate time. His Clocks were selected from the finest American clock makers such as Seth Thomas. Mr Ball improved the clock to his Railroad standards and resold them under his own name. These clocks are becoming harder to find. If you don’t know the the history of the Ball Watch Comapny then look it up and you’ll quickly learn how awesome this clock is. I will gladly give more pictures or info if needed.
